“Hi Yasmin, i am pleased to hear that you,ve reached your ideal weight, it must have been good filming and hard for you to adjust to that food. The obese person, i can,t remember his name, also did well!It must have taken a lot of strength out of you, both physically and mentally! The program has also helped a lot of my friends who don,t really eat that much!
Keep up ur great effort! Ms X x ”

“Hi Yasmin, I have been watching the series and found the episode with you and darrell quite interesting. I was wondering, how long ago was the program filmed? and how has your experiences been since? If you do not find the time to reply, not to worry. I just found the whole concept rather interesting and quite original.
Take care
Mr X”

“I saw you on the above programme, you know the one, the full title eludes me at the moment. I personally do not think you are too skinny, infact i thought you were perfect. Right down too the tips of your fingernails.
I think i identify with you, i too am mixed, english & jamaican. Although i am of “average/normal” build, or what society deems as normal. I am a christian and am drawn too individuals who like to share their individualism. Or may be you are a perfectionist! Mr X ”

“Hey Yasmin,
I hope you don’t mind me emailing you. I got your email address from your website.
I saw you on the Ch4 show and was wondering if you could email me an example of the meal planner that you used to gain weight. I am also underweight – im just over 7 stone and 5?4. Really hate being so boney!! I have tried to put on weight in the past but nothing seems to work. I would really appreciate it if you could send me an idea of what you ate to put on some weight and also let me know if you did any exercise (weights or anything) to help the gain?
Thanks for taking the time to read this!
Kind regards Ms X”

“Hi Jasmin,
I am sorry to write to you directly as I’m sure you’ve been contacted a number of times. I was watching the program yesterday and was really interested as to what your ‘heatly diet plan’ for the future was actually like.
I have been lactose intolerant since my teenage years and developed an awful IBS which has landed me on hospital on morphine or codeine for a few times. A lot of tests have been done but nothing has really ever been found and all my blood test have been fine. I have been told to not eat any gluten which has made a huge difference and I have not had any real attacks since I did stop eating wheat etc. I also no longer fall asleep adn feel lethargic and rather depressed because of th elack of energy.
However, I do struggle to keep my weight up and gain some. I love exercising and my whole family is slim but I’m worried I really need to gain some. And I eat rather a lot and never skip meals (I’m one of those who gets in a very bad mood if I do). Yet, I can’t eat certain things as I mentioned and eat heathily since I hate feeling sick after a meal even if my stomach looks like I’m 7 months pregnant after most meals.
Anyway, i’m sure that was more than enough information but I was just wondering whether you could shed some light on what you were actually ‘told’ to eat and perhaps I could learn from it!
Many thanks in advance! Ms X”
My Reply…
“Hi There…thankyou for your lovely email.. Firstly i would like to say that i am very upset from the show as it cut all the medical stuff out where i ended up going back cos the diet they gave me made me so ill i couldnt get out of bed for 4 weeks they had to admit it was the bread..basically wheat and told me not to eat wheat..they filmed this and i had more tests the day after coming out of the diet house and they found i had stomach ulcers..the show said there was nothing wrong with me when infact i am still unwell and i am going into hosp on thurs for allergy tests..ones i have been waiting 4 years for. its all a bit of a mess…i will reply fully soon i just have alot to sort out 1st.. i wish you well..as your story sounded like my life…if my friends read that they would have said that was me ..its that similar..so we must talk soon..
take care
kind regards
yasmin”
Ms X Reply back…
“Thank you so much for your message! Aftrer last night I did start questioning myself and whether i should just force myself to eat wheat etc.
It is so very frustrating to go from a doctor to another, all of them giving different advice as well as your friends and loved ones!
I hope you do get it sorted out and I’ll work on my pains. If you do have some time at some stage it would be very interesting to talk. Ms X”

“Yasmin,Imagine my surprise when watching TV tonight!….I well remember the health probs you had. Heart probs at one time I seem to remember. I was glad to see you were well but from what you say you’re not. You looked fine.My daughter’s been in 2 similar shows – one a foody one on BBC. She’s well aware of cuts & editing – part of the game. The ‘personality’ that showed her group was never there. Finiona Bruce was with them but was edited out completely. (from my old Law Tutor)”

“Dear Yasmin,
Apologies for this rather out-of-blue email as you do not know me, I saw your program last night and was delighted to find your website.
I felt compelled to write and say that was very brave of you to “bare all” (emotionally as well as physically), good for you, people can be very scathing to those at either end of the BMI. You looked so well at the end of the program, how has it been going since? Have you been keeping up with the diet? (Okay, now I sound like a jewish mother!) You have probably had people constantly telling you how thin you look and that you should eat more, I’m sure that really doesn’t help. Emotion and apetite are so closely linked; stress often manifest itself as loss of apetite. I guess you’ve had lots advice, professional and otherwise, but here’s my two pence for what it’s worth… you should try to ignore your weight, just concentrate on learning to love food again, simple as that. As humans we are naturally omnivorous, it’s our instinct to love all types of food (why else do the likes of Gordon Ramsey and Jamie Oliver do so well?!), so you just need to dealve into that. Stress and concern subconsciously block those instincts, so forget about about the weighing scales and just fire up those taste buds, if one thing doesn’t agree try another! My word, was that a preach or what? Am I preaching to the converted anyhow?
Anyway, enough about that subject, I’m sure you’re blue in the face about it. I would never have guessed your exotic mixed background, it explains your good looks, I am an exotic “blend” myself.
I’m sure you have bigger and better things to do than reading emails from strangers, I shall let you go!
Sincerely, MS X ”

“WOW… Just a short mail, I am sure you have received hundreds tonight. Don’t go to skinny, you looked amazing at the end of the show Regards Mr X ”

“Hello Yasmin,
Hi there, my name is James. I’m a 33 year old, six feet tall, 9 and a half stone guy from essex. I just finished watching your appearance on Channel 4’s “Supersize vs. Superskinny”. I have been underweight as long as I can remember, it used to bother me and cause a lot of anxiety when I was younger, but now I have learned to accept it, more or less. These days I am more concerned about the effects of trying to eat more calories and fat as a cause of heart disease, so it puts me off trying to gain weight. I thought your diet seemed extraordinarily healthy at the start, I was a little surprised that they would consider it a “problem”. That and the fact that you still managed to look quite stunning, even at the start of the show, prior to your weight gain. I was curious as to how things are going for you now, not really sure how long ago this programme was filmed. Did you find the weight stayed on, or did you slide back in to your old diet? I’m not sure if there are different issues for a woman and a man to be underweight. I know I would like to eat a more healthy, balanced diet.
Anyway, thanks for listening to a complete stranger ramble on. Congratulations on the TV appearance, I thought you came across in a very positive way. I was also very impressed how nice you were to the other participant! Have you heard how he is getting on too?
Best wishes and kind regards Mr X”

“Hello Yasmin
I am 35 yr old male, dont usually watch programmes like Supersize but am just 1 stone overweight and taken some interest in my diet recently and spoken to my younger brother who swears by a book he says that has changed his life (and makes me think your diet is probably dead right for you). Book is called Eat Right for your (blood) Type, dont worry i dont make commission lol, but i’ve read a few pages of it and the premise is that our blood type defines what sort of foods were available to our ancestors and therefore what will be healthy for us now ie O type are meat eaters and actually need (some) red meat to do well, my blood type means predominantly veg/bit of fish/bit of white meat/no wheat/reduced dairy. I have to say there seems to be a fair bit of logic to it. Anyway for what its worth I think you look cracking and WAYY better than alot of people who eat any old nonsense without a care in the world. Good for you !”

“Hi Yasmin, I am a 37 year old male and have recently been diagnosed with severe anorexia. You are actually heavier than me at present. I’m struggling to get up to 45Kg and am the same height as yourself. Just thought you may want to talk sometime? If not, I understand otherwise just give me a email. I know this probably isn’t the best way to meet as I suppose you get all sorts of people emailing you but I have to try to give myself some encouragement.
Thanks for listening Mr X ”
